The role
Design the first minutes in Wonderland and the whole journey to a first creation, working directly with i.Wonder’s Chief Design Officer.
What you’ll do
- Design onboarding: a new user’s first minutes in Wonderland, from arrival to understanding what the world is for and what they can make in it.
- Design the complete first-creation journey, from a new user’s idea, through working with AI companions and Julius, to a first creation they can open, test and share.
- Design interaction patterns for creating inside a 3D world: in-world panels, HUD, menus, companion conversations, progress and verification states, and errors.
- Build interactive prototypes in Figma and, where it helps, in-engine, and test them with people.
- Partner with engineers on implementation details so designs ship as intended, including Unreal Engine UI.
- Run usability tests, synthesize what they show, and turn findings into concrete design changes.
- Contribute to Wonderland’s shared design language with the team.
The technical challenges
- Making a complex system — agents, missions, review and verification — understandable without hiding what it is doing.
- Designing for a 3D, multiplayer, game-like space and for productive creation at the same time.
- Showing honest states in a world UI: what is running, what is verified and what failed.
What success looks like
- A new user can reach a first creation without outside help, and usability tests show it.
- Onboarding and the core creation flows are specified, prototyped, tested and implemented.
- Design decisions are documented clearly enough for engineering to build them accurately.
Required qualifications
- A portfolio showing product design work from research through shipped interfaces.
- Strong UX and UI fundamentals: information architecture, interaction design, visual hierarchy and accessibility.
- Advanced Figma, including interactive prototypes.
- Experience running usability tests and acting on what they show.
- Experience collaborating closely with engineers on technical implementation.
Preferred qualifications
None of these are required.
- Game UI/UX, HUD or 3D interface design.
- Unreal Engine UI (UMG or Slate) or other in-engine prototyping.
- Designing onboarding or first-time user experiences for games or creative tools.
- Designing interfaces for AI products, agents or creative tools.
- Motion design, or prototyping in code.
About i.Wonder
i.Wonder Laboratories, Inc. builds multiplayer open-world AI creation platforms, and researches, develops and deploys Compound AI Systems and Compound AI Agents. Our thesis is that AI creation should not end when a chat window closes: people and Compound AI Agents should be able to build, collaborate, compete, create software and maintain what they make, together, over time, inside a persistent world.
Wonderland is our flagship platform: a persistent multiplayer open world for AI creation, designed so that AI-powered creation and real software development happen in the same place as collaboration, competition and play. Wonderland is in active development.
Julius is our flagship Compound AI Agent and the intelligence inside Wonderland. It governs three permanent tiers — a Prompt Architect (a large language model), a Coding Agent (an agentic coding system) and an Independent Reviewer (an independent agent harness) — and every tier reads from and writes to Project Brain, Julius’s durable memory. Work is finished when independent review and verification say so, not when an agent says it is.
What to know about this stage
i.Wonder is an early-stage company. Wonderland and Julius are in active development, and the descriptions of them here are their intended design, not a report of finished features. The research papers set out the architecture and the evidence still to be gathered.
